description de l'évènement: The use of ionizing radiation in modern health systems is increasing. Interventional radiology and cardiology together with nuclear medicine have been identified as radiation medical applications where staff is potentially exposed to high doses.

The scope of the workshop is:
- to present new methodologies for improving dose assessment in interventional radiology and nuclear medicine,
- to present the ORAMED developed prototypes.
- to introduce training material in order to facilitate the understanding of the proposed recommendations,
- to highlight the best practices for reducing occupational doses

The ORAMED 2011 Programme Committee is calling for contributions in the selected topics, which will be presented either as oral communications or posters. Due to the format of the workshop the number of accepted papers will have to be limited.

The conference is aimed at all research groups and health departments that have collaborated with ORAMED measuring campaigns and with the development of the project. In addition, the workshop addresses to other medical personnel in the fields of interventional radiology, interventional cardiology and nuclear medicine, as well as, radiation protection officers, medical physicists and regulators, interested in improving the radiation protection of medical staff.

In February 2008, ORAMED, a collaborative project funded by the European Atomic Energy Community's Seventh Framework Program, was launched to enhance the safety and efficacy of the uses of radiation in diagnostics and therapy, by developing methodologies for better assessing and reducing exposures to medical staff in these fields.

Five main topics related to radiation protection of medical staff are addressed:
- Optimization of radiation protection in interventional radiology
- Development of practical eye lens dosimetry in interventional radiology
- Optimization of the use of active personal dosemeters in interventional radiology
- Optimization of radiation protection in nuclear medicine
- Training on radiation protection

The workshop will mainly focus on the dissemination of ORAMED project results, together with the participation of invited speakers from professional societies and International bodies involved in the field of radiation protection. Invited talks will be combined with round-tables to have fruitful discussions about the proposed new recommendations for better assessing and reducing exposures to medical staff.
